A 7.3 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Fukushima prefecture in Japan. A tsunami warning for waves of up to three metres was issued.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre says the tsunami threat has now passed, but warns of tidal fluctuations and says residents should remain alert.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says the quake struck around 6 am at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Residents are being told to evacuate from coastal regions and riverside areas to a safe place, such as higher ground or an evacuation building immediately.
