TVNZ this morning confirmed the redundancy of weekend news host Bernadine Oliver-Kerby, who has not fronted One News since it returned to screens after the Christmas break.
The state broadcaster is changing its weekend news offering to a single presenter, Peter Williams, kicking Ms Oliver-Kerby off the front line.
The veteran journalist and presenter has worked at TVNZ for more than 20 years, including Olympic and Commonwealth Games coverage, covering rugby and netball world cups and hosting game shows.
News and current affairs head John Gillespie says “weekends won’t be the same without Bernadine” but she will still provide cover for the weeknight news.
Rumours have swirled for weeks that the 44-year-old’s job was on the chopping block when Mr Williams began presenting the news solo after the holiday period.
TVNZ has also farewelled weather presenter Karen Olsen and Good Morning presenter Jeanette Thomas in recent months.
Ms Oliver-Kerby continues to present news for NZME-owned Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking Breakfast show.
