The plight of politicians in Britain has left Prime Minister John Key relieved he had a clear win on election night.
Britain's Conservatives are in government-forming talks with the smaller Liberal Democrats after an election, the first since 1974, which failed to give one party overall control.
Britain retains the first past the post system, with electorates determining results rather than party votes.
Under MMP New Zealand's National Party came in with 44.93 percent of the vote and has support arrangements in government with both the Maori and ACT Parties.
"It reminds me why I was so grateful that we knew on election night that we could put together a government," Mr Key said on TVNZ this morning.
"Obviously a tricky negotiation there for the Lib Dems and for David Cameron with the Tories but look, it seems to be progressing from what you can see... and I am sure the markets will want that because there are signs that they are obviously feeling a little gittery both with Greece... and now the UK with a hung parliament.'
Mr Cameron's Conservatives won the most seats in Thursday's parliamentary election but fell short of a majority and are seeking the support of Nick Clegg's third-placed Liberal Democrats, or Lib Dems, to end 13 years of Labour Party rule.
The Tories won 306 seats and got 36.1 percent of the vote, Labour got 258 seats and 29 percent of the vote while the Lib Dems got only 57 seats yet secured 23 percent of the vote.
