Unemployment falls, earnings jump

Unemployment has defied forecasters, falling to 5.6% of the workforce in the latest labour market data.
 
Economists' median forecast was for a fall from the previous quarter's 6.0% to 5.8% – a figure also in line with the Reserve Bank forecasts.
