Workers and union representatives have taken time out around the country to protest at the Government's new employment laws.
Soon after midday there were over 1000 people in front of Parliament, with others arriving in to hear speeches from those leading the charge against the laws, including Council of Trade Unions president Helen Kelly.
The Employment Relations Amendment Bill passed its first reading in Parliament a couple of months ago and will bring changes including extending the 90-day probation period to all businesses, requiring greater justification for sick days and making changes to union access to workplaces.
Organisers have promoted today's protests as being the largest collective union action for many years.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little was due to speak at Pacific Stadium in Manukau at 1pm.
