Two universities are collaborating to launch the country’s first information and communications technology graduate school.

The project will be led by the University of Auckland with support from the University of Waikato. The school will have satellite locations in Hamilton and Tauranga.

The government has committed $28.6 million over four years for the development and delivery of ICT graduate schools in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.

The schools will accept not only computer science graduates but also students who have studied in non-ICT subjects and show strong critical thinking, communications or business planning skills.

Industry and businesses in the ICT sector will have significant interaction with the school, including providing guest presenters and workshop facilitators and helping connect students with industry through networking and internships.

Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce will officially launch the school in Auckland tomorrow night, February 24.
