Viewers hit back at Sunday paper
Dumped TV listings another reason to drop ailing paper.
Viewer outrage will see Choice TV programme listings return to a “new-look” Herald on Sunday but intelligent listings are gone because they don’t rate.
Asked why the paper had dropped listings for Sky channels such as BBC Knowledge, National Geographic, History and the Arts Channel, Herald on Sunday Living magazine editor Estelle Sarney told NBR ONLINE it came down to ratings and reduced space.
Ms Sarney says they would find space to reinstate Auckland-based magazine-style newcomer Choice TV listings this Sunday after receiving a lot of reader/viewer complaints.
She says Sky TV would not give viewing figures but would provide listings only for what it deemed were its most popular and most watched channels.
Ms Sarney says it came down to deciding what to leave in and what to leave out.
While television programmes are available elsewhere, some people subscribed to the NZ Herald’s Herald on Sunday mainly for its previously convenient weekly programme listings, including intelligent channels no longer deemed popular.
And because there is little news in the culled Sunday paper – that’s not available free online – to warrant a joint subscription, it is just another reason not to renew it.
