Vodafone is offering un-metered data for Facebook and Twitter access, at least for those on its $6/50MB "Supa" prepay plan with its Mobile Internt 2 Go add-on.
Vodafone’s Head of Consumer Marketing, Kursten Shalfoon, said “A recent Vodafone mobile internet survey showed 60% of respondents are accessing social media via their mobile phones at least once a day.
"Now our customers can see in real time what their friends are up too and enjoy the ‘full fat’ Facebook and Twitter experience on us.”
The plan follows a similar recent initiative by Telecom, which only covered text updates - although it is open to all users, not just pre-pay.
Vodafone said its new deal, which begins Friday, also covers multimedia updates such as adding photos to your Facebook or Twitter stream.
Telecom chief executive Paul Reynolds recently vowed - at his company's annual results briefing - to win back the Auckland youth market.
Today's Vodafone announcement has the look of a counter-attack.
