UPDATE 11.12am: Vodafone's latest update: "A software patch for the 3G cell network has been tested successfully and will be deployed in the live network over the next few days"

You have to go hunting to find it, but a new Vodafone service alert, posted to its website, says the carrier has it has now "identified a fix" for the so-called data-stalling problem that has been plaguing its network for the past fortnight.

However, the only timetable for implementing the fix is "as soon as possible".

NBR has sought a more definitive timeline.

In the meantime, Vodafone stresses that mobile phone owners need to turn their device own and off to regain full service after suffering a problem.

On Tuesday, 10 days after customers began complaining online, Vodafone finally copped to its data-stalling issue, which by its own description was causing:

Missed calls and delayed texts while in coverage
• Unable to make calls until the phone is powered off and on
• Unable to set up 3G data [that is, email and web] sessions

Vodafone NZ chief executive Russell Stanners has yet to respond to an NBR request for comment.
