Catching up with a similar move made by Telecom in February, Vodafone is now offering over-the-air operating system software updates for BlackBerry users.
Previously, software updates had to be downloaded to a PC then transferred to the handset using the BlackBerry software management tool (much like the iPhone uses iTunes to update).
If you want to take advantage of your newfound update powers as a BlackBerry owner, Version 5.0 of the phone’s operating system software features the ability to flag an email for follow up, Gmail integration, remote file access and other frills (see them all here).
The catch: older models don’t support the new software. Check out the list of compatible models here.
Vodafone NZ smartphone manager Tom Morton said the new over-the-air update feature also gives BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrators an easier way to manage their fleet of BlackBerry smartphones, allowing them to easily roll out both optional and mandatory updates to their end users.
