Vodafone's plan for the TestraClear brand?
Kill it off.
It seems no value is seen in dual-branding, beyond a short term transition period.
"Subject to regulatory approvals of the deal, the TelstraClear brand will be removed from the market over an 18 month period," a Vodafone spokeswoman told NBR this morning.
The awkward TelstraClear moniker sprang from the 2001 merger of Wellington-based, Telstra-owned cable operator TelstraSaturn and Clear Communications (which Telstra bought from BT) in 2001.
Sponsorships in the balance?
TelstraClear has various sponsorship and naming rights arrangements, which include the TelstraClear Pacific events centre in Auckland, and arrangements with the Royal NZ Ballet and Te Papa.
On these, the Vodafone spokeswoman said, "Obviously the deal is still subject to regulatory approvals. We won’t be making immediate changes to the sponsorship portfolio and over time we will look to align TelstraClear’s sponsorship properties with our overall portfolio."
TelstraClear dropped its signature Black Caps sponsorship, inherited from Clear Communications, in 2004.
