As if a 35,000-60,000 barrels a day oil spill wasn’t bad enough, London BP executives will soon face a raucous mass chorus of vuvuzelas.
US video producer Adam Quirk is raising funds to buy 100 vuvuzelas and hire 100 vuvuzela players to play for an entire work day outside BP’s international headquarters in St James’ Square, London.
“BP is not feeling the pain they are causing in the Gulf”, Mr Quirk wrote on his campaign website.
“I know this isn't going to change anything, but it will draw attention back to BP after the inevitable 24 hour news cycle finds some celebrity sex scandal to distract us with.”
The one-metre long plastic horn instruments – estimated at 127 decibels, louder than a chainsaw - have caused controversy at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, putting some players off their game and drowning out commentary.
Mr Quirk has had no trouble meeting his target budget of $US2000, with $3700 raised so far and six days of fund-raising to go.
A date has not yet been set for the protest.
