OceanaGold chief executive Paul Bibby has resigned for personal reasons after 11 months on the job – and the Melbourne-based gold producer is on the hunt for a replacement.

In a statement to the NZX today, chairman Jim Askew said Mr Bibby had made a significant contribution since joining the company and would leave group management on a “solid footing.”

Mr Askew will act as chief executive until a replacement is found.

OceanaGold (NZX: OGC) shares have climbed strongly over the last year, with gold prices high and the company opting for increased spot market exposure.

In July, the company posted quarterly pre-tax earnings of $54 million and forecast increased production for the rest of the year.

Shares last traded up 2.53% to $4.86.

OceanaGold is listed in New Zealand, Australia, and Toronto and has gold projects in New Zealand, including the Macraes goldfield in Otago and Reefton mine on the west coast, and in the Philippines.
