The chief executive of the Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Central has resigned to focus on his business investments and directorships.
ECCC’s new president John Johnston, who is also head of government relations with Westpac, says the demands on Ken Harris’ time make it impractical for him to continue in the role.
“We regret the need for Mr Harris to move on, but we do acknowledge the difficulty he had with competing demands for his time,” Mr Johnston says of the resigning ceo who oversaw the merger of the old Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Central).
The search for a new chief executive will begin shortly, he said.
Mr Harris, a Lower Hutt-based businessman who is part owner of logistics company NZL Group, only joined the ECCC in October 2010.
The ECCC was created via the merger between the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Central) last month.
