Aucklanders could be about to get a taste of Wellington’s mysterious hum.
The low-decibel hum has been plaguing concerned residents in the Wellington suburbs of Mt Victoria, Mt Cook and Newtown since Sunday morning.
City council staff have received more than 20 calls as a result and a handful of emails.
However, council spokesman Richard MacLean thinks they have found the source of the hum – Singaporean frigate RSS Stalwart.
The frigate has been docked at Wellington’s Queens Wharf since Saturday, coinciding with a three-day visit by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Mr MacLean told NBR ONLINE it appears the hum was coming from the ship’s power generator.
The Stalwart left for Auckland last night and will arrive there tomorrow.
Mr MacLean says there have not been any new complaints from residents overnight.
He says it will be interesting to find out if Aucklanders hear the same hum.
