Kim Dotcom and three others accused of copyright infringement, money laundering and racketeering by the US Justice Department have been remanded in custody by the North Shore District Court ahead of a bail hearing on Monday.
The US government has 45 days under the Extradition Act to apply to extradict the four in relation to a series of charges detailed in an indictment made public this morning.
All charges relate to the Megaupload file sharing website run by Mr Dotcom, which is alleged to have generated $US175 million profit from illegal activities.
The other three men held in custody are Megauploads chief marketing officer, Finn Batato, chief technical officer, co-founder and director Mathias Ortmann and Bram van der Kolk, who oversaw website programming and network structure.
After much confusion and courtroom delays, lawyers spent some time in chambers with Judge David McNaughton debating whether media could photograph the accused.

Mr Dotcom's lawyer Paul Davison QC objected to photographs being taken but in a surprise move from the dock Mr Dotcom spoke out, telling the court he did not being photographed because "We've got nothing to hide.”
After telling photographers to "stop...stop..."Judge McNaughton then gave them 10 seconds to photograph the four - followed by another 10 after one member of the media had difficulty with his camera.
