Why the dairy futures market got the GDT auction wrong

Futures were picking a 5% gain on the platform but whole milk powder prices fell by almost 3%.

Dairy market futures weren't on the money predicting the overnight GlobalDairyTrade (GDT) auction and probably reflected hype over lower milk production driving prices higher.

The auction saw whole milk powder prices fall by 2.7% to just over $3000 a tonne – the biggest drop on the platform
