YahooXtra today announced a net profit after tax result in 2010 of $1.88 million, an increase of 37% from 2009 results.

The company is a joint venture between Yahoo7, itself an Australian collaboration between Yahoo and Seven Network (51%), and Telecom New Zealand (49%).

YahooXtra general manager Laura Maxwell-Hansen said the result reflected the continued growth of digital media.  She said she had expected 2010 to deliver a “significant increase” in display advertising, “and it has”.

The company said its site received more than 5.95 million unique browsers last month and Nielsen Media Intelligence reported that the site has been the number one homepage of New Zealanders since March 2010.

For the week of March 14 to March 20, Nielsen reported just over 1.8 million domestic unique visitors to YahooXtra.

As well as information like news, weather and TV guide information, the site acts as a portal for Yahoo services like Flickr photo-sharing, and Yahoo's mail service - the default option for Telecom customers.
