Early childhood teacher and graphic designer Wick Nixon always thought cooking would remain a hobby but, after receiving mentoring, her passion has turned into a career.

Last year, she ran a free programme called the 21 Day Marvellous Lunchbox Makeover for parents to receive three weeks of free tips and recipes to inspire them to make healthier options for their children’s lunchboxes.

She was surprised at the demand – 4500 parents signed up – so self-published the programme into a cookbook, which went on to win the international Gourmand Cookbook Awards’ best New Zealand food and family cookbook in December.

“I got such incredible feedback on how it changed parents’ lives and took the pain away from lunchbox preparation,” she says.

Mrs Nixon is relaunching the 21 day programme again this month through her business Wicked Wellbeing, and runs education programmes in schools. In future she also intends to run corporate workshops.

Andrew Patterson speaks to Mrs Nixon on NBR Radio.
