A frustrated Prime Minister has left a press conference after being repeatedly questioned over the 'tea pot' tapes.
Mr Key had been addressing reporters after giving a speech at the Federated Farmers national conference at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
After answering a couple of questions about trade, he was asked about the secret recording of his meeting last Friday with Act's Epsom candidate John Banks.
Mr Key was repeatedly asked whether he thought the tapes were in the public interest and should be released. After repeatedly responding that he was there to talk about trade and the economy Mr Key, with a smile, left the room.
NBR approached Mr Key's office to find out more and was told emailed questions would be considered.
