Orcon has expanded its UFB fibre plans into four more cities: Invercargill, Wanganui, New Plymouth and Tauranga.
Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Rotorua, Napier and Dunedin are already covered by the state-owned ISP.
In March last year, Orcon became the first of the Big Five ISPs to launch fibre plans based on the public-private Ultrafast Broadband rollout.
This morning, a spokesman told NBR ONLINE that Orcon has now connected 1000 customers to UFB, with another 10,000 on a wait list for when fibre reaches their area (Orcon has around 100,000 customers in total).
CallPlus/Slingshot is the only other Big Five ISP to have launched fibre plans.
Telecom will launch next month. Vodafone and its recent acquisition TelstraClear (still operating independently) says it will launch before mid year.
