Melbourne-based investors have taken possession of Queenstown¹s historic  lakeside landmark, Eichardt¹s Private Hotel.

The sale to The Imperium Capital Group went unconditional on December 17.  Imperium's portfolio includes a number of other properties in the hospitality and leisure sector.

Christchurch-born managing director Andrew Cox says the group intends building the Eichardt¹s brand and working with other luxury partners in Queenstown. He says Eichardt¹s management will remain unchanged.

Highland Resorts has sold the Eichardt¹s hotel business as well as the Eichardt's Lakefront Cottage Suites.

"When we took over the property after the devastating flood of 1999 we were proud to be a part of the renaissance of the property and to open the hotel in all its glory in a format that was fitting for the hotel, the Queenstown waterfront and the region in general," Highland co-director Stephen Fisher said.

The hotel comprises five luxurious suites within the historic building and four, two-bedroom suites in the Lakefront Cottage.

The sale price was not disclosed.
