Outspoken Fonterra governance critic Russ Rimmington has lived up to his promise after a failed attempt to gain a seat on the company’s board last year.
After the Fonterra election last year, the former Hamilton mayor said the board was on notice and that he would be back.
He is one of five shareholders going for three seats on the board following the completion of Fonterra’s candidate assessment panel process.
Each year, three elected members of Fonterra’s board must stand down and apply for re-election if they want to maintain their seat.
Chairman Sir Henry van der Heyden along with board members Malcolm Bailey and Ian Farrelly will all contest the election and have been challenged by Maurice Hardie from Papamoa and Mr Rimmington.
Last year Mr Rimmington slammed Fonterra’s election process as undemocratic because of a “gagging” clause in the election code of conduct that prevented him from discussing the board’s plans for capital restructuring.
A directors’ election candidate roadshow of 11 meetings throughout the country will be held between November 1-5.
