The first well drilled in Origin Energy's search for oil and gas in the offshore Northland Basin has produced little excitement.
The semi-submersible rig Kan Tan IV drilled the Korimako-1 exploration well to a total depth of 1946m in about 100m of water around 40km off the Waikato coast.
Origin today said minor shows had been seen intermittently between a depth of 1120m and 1620m in the well.
In the primary target area of the well no intervals of economic significance were identified, Origin said.
The well was being plugged and abandoned, with drilling rig then moving to the Tarapunga-1 well location.
