It appears Pebbles Hooper is no longer welcome on TV3’s Paul Henry show, following controversy over a tweet she made last Saturday.
Outrage over her social media outburst led Ms Hooper to first issue an apology and then close her Twitter account.
On Tuesday NZ Herald Weekend editor Miriyana Alexander announced Ms Hooper had resigned as co-editor of the Herald on Sunday’s Spy gossip pages, “effective immediately” and will also no longer appear in the Weekend Herald's Canvas magazine, in which she has had a long-running advice column with her mother, fashion designer Denise L'Estrange Corbet.
Another of Ms Hooper’s regular media engagements has been as a panellist on The Paul Henry show, which is broadcast on TV3 and RadioLive 6-9am weekdays.
In response to a query about whether, in light of the negative reaction to her recent tweet, Ms Hooper will continue to be a regular panellist on the show, a MediaWorks spokeswoman provided NBR with the following statement: “Pebbles Hooper is part of a large and varied group of New Zealanders who have given up their time to appear on the Paul Henry panel. She is not scheduled to appear on the show again.”
Today, the 'youth commentator' slot Ms Hooper has previously filled on the Friday panel was taken by Richie Hardcore.
Mr Hardcore is a man of many parts: Thai boxing champion, a facilitator for Auckland Council’s Community Action Youth and Drugs programme and a radio host on 95bfm.
