Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders is visiting New Zealand for four days.
He and New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully will today visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where a pōwhiri is scheduled.
In Wellington, Mr Reynders will attend a blessing of the site for a Belgian memorial at the Pukeahu National Memorial Park, where he will lay a wreath and unveil a plaque.
The Embassy of Belgium says he will also meet Trade Minister Todd McClay at this ceremony and then they will discuss the proposed free-trade agreement between the European Union and New Zealand.
“[Mr Reynders] will dedicate some time to learn about the Néo-Zealander integration policies and processes in order to better understand the mechanisms put in place to help newly settled migrants become part of the New-Zealander society at the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre,” the embassy says.
Mr Reynders' other activities include visits to Te Papa museum and Weta Workshop, which worked on the film featuring Tintin, created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé.
