Hiring intentions as measured by Manpower's quarterly employment outlook survey are at their highest level in two years.
The national survey of 630 employers found 22% of employers expecting a rise in headcount between July and September and 7% forecasting a fall, giving a net employment outlook of +1%.
While the latest figures are not as good as the 23% forecasting a rise and 6% expecting fewer workers in the previous survey, when seasonally adjusted the latest net employment outlook rises to +18% from +13% between April and June.
The manufacturing and services sectors were anticipating the most active labour markets, Manpower said.
Manufacturing's seasonally adjusted net employment outlook was +24% in the latest survey, while services had +23%, finance, insurance and real estate had +19%, wholesale and retail trade was +15%, mining and construction +17%, transport and utilities +10%, and public administration/education +8%.
Compared to the previous quarter the services sector was up 9 percentage points, while transportation and utilities and wholesale and retail trade were both up 6 percentage points.
The outlook for finance, insurance and real estate dropped 12 percentage points, and mining and construction was down 7 percentage points.
