Yes, just in case anyone was wondering, Telecom boss Paul Reynolds appears to be fishing legally in the latest XT television ads broadcasting in June.
Telecom pr spin has Mr Reynolds casting from his favourite spot – identified as the Greenstone Valley, near Glenorchy, at the head of Lake Wakatipu.
A perception might be that the lanky Scotsman is fishing his spot right now.
But the ad isn’t “live,” it was made earlier.
Because if, as some nit-pickers infer, Mr Reynolds was fishing the Greenstone Valley – and the Greenstone River – in June, he could be in hot, not chill, water.
Fishing the Greenstone River, which runs through the Greenstone Valley, is forbidden from June 1. Before then Mr Reynolds was fine.
An Otago Fish & Game Council source said fishing from the edge of Lake Wakatipu, near where the Greenstone River enters the lake, was OK.
All the technicalities aside, the noble Mr Reynolds, appeared to be an experienced and skilled fly fisherman.
NBR has had his style checked out by another experienced and skilled fly fisherman who reckons he holds his left hand like a pro, whatever that means.
Phew… another possible Telecom XT disaster scotched …
