Hacking, Netflix, Chorus' ups-and-downs and the Xero roller coaster.

The January DoS attack that took Whaleoil offline turned out to be a precursor of bigger things. Although a DoS (denial-of-service) attack involves smothering a site with connection requests rather than hacking it, a DoS incident can leave site vulnerable at times, especially as it's restarted or rebuilt. We don't know for sure, but it's possible the hacker known as Rawshark exploited the DoS attack to access Cameron Slater's email and Facebook messages, which in turn became the basis for Nick Hager's Dirty Politics.

Elsewhere, there was huge interest in anything related to new ways of watching content. See more on that topic in Top 10 predictions for the Internet in 2015.
