Vodafone Australia to sell iPad with unlimited data

Telsra and Optus drew howls when they unveiled their iPad 3G data plans, which offer 1GB for $A20 and 2GB for $A20 ($NZ24) respectively - at least from other handset makers who called the cut-rate data deals a case of Apple favouritism.

Telsra and Optus drew howls when they unveiled their iPad 3G data plans, which offer 1GB for $A20 and 2GB for $A20 ($NZ24) respectively - at least from other handset makers who called the cut-rate data deals a case of Apple favouritism.

Now Vodafone Australia’s gone one better, offering unlimited data for $A49 ($NZ58) a month.

Sigh. The deals you get when three carriers offer plans around an Apple device.

There is some fine print. The unlimited plan’s terms and conditions forbid you from connecting to a peer-to-peer service (the likes of semi-legal and outright dodgy movie download services), and your iPad must be for personal use only.

Still, for any serious mobile user, it beats the pants off any deal available in NZ today (bar perhaps Vodafone's 3GB freebie for iPhone users, which seems forever extended for another month).

The iPad is due for New Zealand release in July.

But it's not yet clear who'll sell data plans, let alone at what price.

Today, a Vodafone NZ spokeman echoed the company’s previous comments to NBR, saying “We'd love to sell the iPad but don't have any indication of whether we can yet or not.”
