Whoops — IRD's Twitter account goes off the rails

Thu, 09 Jul 2015

Inland Revenue's Twitter account seems to have gone off the rails today.

NBR's attention has been drawn to a seemingly normal IRD tweet posted at 12.04pm. It's text is seemingly normal: "If you’re involved in buying and selling houses the proposed bright-line test is important to you. #HaveYourSay now". But an attached link leads to a spammy fat-burning site.

Has Inland Revenue's account been hijacked? Has an over-eating staff member pasted in the wrong URL? IRD did not immediately respond to a NBR's query. A nation waits. [UPDATE: An IRD spokeswoman tells NBR, "It was just human error. No security was compromised. The problem as been fixed."]
