Meridian Energy chief executive Mark Binns is next up in the AMA chair.

With its $5.9 billion market cap, Meridian is the second-largest company on the NZX (if still behind the $6.5 billion valuation touted before its listing).

And, between debates over power pricing, renewables, privatisation and Rio Tinto's Bluff smelter, it's never been far from the headlines.

Mr Binns came to the company in 2012, shortly before its partial privatisation, after a 22-year career at Fletcher Building and its predecessor Fletcher Challenge, where his role as chief executive of the company's infrastructure division saw him in the thick of major projects like the Wiri Prison, the Waterview Connection, Sky City and Te Papa. Before joining Fletcher, he was a partner at Simpson Grierson.
